Adding Operator solved the client’s concerns
How we made automation make sense for a client
Universal Robots and Operator improve automation
Universal Robots’ introduction of the cobot was a pivotal event. Due to UR’s ease of use, our client was very interested in the platform. They were also looking for a way to make operation for the user easier with fewer chances of user errors.
We had an ace in our back pocket called Robot27 Operator—a user interface for UR robots that will allow the user to choose a program from a graphical interface—and/or a barcode scanner.
We suggested that by adding Operator to the robot cell, and using a barcode scanner, the user only needs to scan a barcode to select the correct program from the materials to be processed and they are good to go. No entering part numbers. No mistakes. No slow downs.
“OK, now we’re sold.” they said.
It’s there, up and running and working well for them now.
The poet Alexander Pope wrote, ‘To err is human.’ As cobots become more common on the manufacturing floor, having a system that lessens the ‘human factor’ from adversely effecting the robot’s operation is important for fluid production.
This is the Robot27 Operator advantage – providing isolation between the main programming and the users interfaces, and thereby preventing any accidental input by users on the floor, thus mitigating any production delays and costly re-programming of the teach pendant, and in general, making robot operation easier for accelerated onboarding of workers.
The Robot27 Operator interface is a valuable addition for any UR Robot cell.
Here is how Robot27 Operator can make a difference
Programmers — Set up the interface for operators by linking the UR PolyScope programs users can run, add operator notes, needed program parameters, and any pre-defined error messages for each program through a password-protected interface.
Operators — Use the graphical interface and/or a barcode reader to quickly identify and select the correct program, enter any required parameters, and only have access to the essential functions they need—reducing the possibility of operator errors.
The Robot27 Operator advantages –
- Isolate the main programming and the users interfaces
- Mitigate mistakes and production delays
- Make robot operation easier for day-to-day users
- Accelerate onboarding of workers
- And, many more
The system is easy-to-use and works with any Universal Robot. The operator never touches the teach pendant.
No Programming Knowledge Required for Operators
Robot27 Operator Interface provides machine operators with an easy-to-use screen that allows them to execute various pre-defined robot programs and functions without ever touching the teach pendant. There is no danger of a program modification by accident.
Supports two-way communication between the robot and HMI
The Operator Interface allows any necessary program parameters to be passed to the robot. How Many Pieces, Length, Width, or any other needed variables can be set by the operator before the run.
Ideal for short-run, high-mix operations
Hundreds of programs for different parts, different clients, or different projects can be easily cataloged by Client, Job, or project. Operators can choose a program by part number, but a drawing or photo can be added on each program for visual verification that the right program was selected. Special operator instructions can be added for each individual program.
User-friendly Interface
The system is equipped with a user-friendly graphical interface that is intuitive and easy to navigate, making it ideal for operators of all skill levels.
Works with any Universal Robot
The Robot27 Operator Interface is designed to work seamlessly, right out of the box, with minimal setup. It will allow operators to easily access and run various pre-programmed tasks with just a few clicks, without touching the teach pendant
Truly Plug and Play
The PnP nature of the Operator Interface will allow in-house robot programmers to easily set up various options for the Operator, such as adding and removing programs and parameters.
